Unless you use all exact matches of your keywords (eg putting your keywords in brackets like this [keyword]) you should definitely have negative keywords in your ad groups. If you put your keywords in brackets, you will only get impressions on searches for exactly what are between the brackets to see if your keyword is [red cars], your ad will not be triggered if someone searches for "cars" or "blue car".
Exact matches are great because you can concentrate on exactly what people want. However, if you are using only exact matches, you may lose a lot of great keywords that you have not thought of. As a highly simplified example, can use a person selling cars again. Tell your keyword "cars" (without quotes) if you are so tender, Your ad could trigger a search with the word "car" in it. You may think this is great, because now you will get your ad to appear up most often, but not at all what you want.

Type in "car" (without quotes) in the keyword box and click Search. Take a look at the list below, and say that you sell cars. If you sell new cars, which would point to appear in your ad to someone searching for 'used cars' or "parking"? It would not. Again, you might think that this will increase the number of impressions your ad, but you do not want a huge amount of unnecessary printing. If you get a ton of impressions and no clicks on your ad, you click Through Rate (CTR) will decrease. The worst your CTR, the higher the quality of your ad, and then with Google, the more you'll have to pay for your keyword. Moreover, if someone is looking for cars used not click your ad for new cars, it is very unlikely they will buy a new car, and you lose money on clicks.
As can be seen from the results WordTracker, if you're advertising cars, there are many irrelevant keywords that you do not want your ad to appear. In Google AdWords, to prevent your ad to specific keywords, you want to announce that this keyword with a sign "-" In front of her, ie for this example, AD-used, leasing, insurance, trendy, and so on.

This is the fundamental principle of research negative keywords. There will be no harm to add relevant terms to your ad groups to make appropriate investigations and improve your CTR.
